available to the system. This seems to be related to my laptop (I tried with a different one and it
works). Is there anything I could do to check if any conflict blocks the midi device in the machine?
I tried to uninstall and reinstall the server several times even clearing the pre-existant midi entries
in the registry before reinstalling: no way. Doing a registry scan I found a track of the software in:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-

"Driver"="ProRemoteMIDI.dll"
"Description"="ProRemote MIDI Driver"

Any idea?

Thanks again

Are you saying that you don't see the ProRemote Ports listed in any of your music apps? Which
app are you using... Currently ProTools is the only one I know that exhibits this problem which
requires a complete rewrite of our driver to fix!

But yes, that is our driver entry under the media key.

Yes, I tried with Nuendo and there was no proremote port listed in the midi devices. However, after some hand uninstallation and reinstall, I succeeded at last in having the midi devices visible in the system!!! (I also used midi-ox from http://www.sionsoft.com/useful.html).
Should I now use midi data from proremote port x to mimic a mackie control? sorry for the basic question...

Yes, exactly, create a Mackie Control and set its input and output to ProRemote Port 1.
If you want more than 8 tracks of control create more Mackie Controls and set them to
Port 2-4 respectively.

Let me know if you need any more help.

Also- how did you hand install the driver just out of curiosity?

Sorry, "hand" referred to the uninstall process only: I repeatedly uninstalled the server from control panel utility after having stopped the service from services panel (even if this shouldn't be really necessary, but windows sometimes makes strange things).
Then reinstalled from your .exe file. I had to do this procedure two times, don't know why, but after 2nd attempt magically midi ports appeared to the system. I succeeded also in setting up mackie control (used mackie HUI) for the first 8 channels. Thanks for the hints.

I'd now like to setup what would be really useful for me. I'm going to buy a firewire external card (motu traveler or fireface 800): both have live, stand alone capabilities i.e. the possibility to live mix being controlled by the midi port (i guess both under mackie protocol). My desire is to set up a system that uses the laptop as proremote server and:

1) pipes the commands to a phisical midi port connected to the card, using their stand-alone capabilities, or

2) control through proremote the real-time mixers bundled with cards (CUEmix for the traveler http://www.motu.com/products/motuaudio/traveler-mk3/mixing.html and totalmix for the fireface 800)

Both cards have 8 analog inputs. In this way should be possible to realize a remotable mixing facility for live events (its a theater show, 3 mikes plus a couple of guitars and prerecorded bases).

Do you think that this could be done in principle or not?
(sorry, this last question should maybe posted elsewhere in the forum...)

Thanks again

Once I get more familiar with Windows MIDI setups I will better be able to recommend a solution to
this. You will need someway to "wire" the MOTU Traveler's MIDI to ProRemote's MIDI. If you can do
this, you will be good to go- the rest should just "work".

On the Mac you can just do this from the Audio/MIDI setup app but on
Windows you may need a piece of third party software to wire the traveler's MIDI to ProRemote's MIDI
(the problem being that ProRemote MIDI doesn't exist in hardware).

Let me see what I can find out there that does the job- I think MIDI Yoke will probably allow you to do
that- but use that software with caution! It can funk itself out if improperly configured.
http://www.midiox.com/myoke.htm

and Maple is pretty good I hear:

Maybe others can suggest other solutions as well.

I've just downloaded the LE version for my iPod Touch 32 GB for use with Windows 7 and Ableton Live 8.
I am getting the 'Server Version Mismatch' notice when I start the app.
In the settings, I am told that I'm connected to my laptop, but I can't find the 'ProRemote' in the MIDI preferences in Live. I've tried uninstalling an reinstalling.

Any ideas?

It sounds like the driver didn't get installed. (or did get installed but ignored)...

You can open the device manager and look under Media->Sound and you should see ProRemote. If
not, try the new beta that will be out later this week (possibly as early as tonight). The new beta also
does away with the mismatch warning.
